On December 21 and 22, Cho-Liang Lin performs with the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra in concerts featuring three of America’s most popular and accomplished composers: Bernstein, Copland, and Gershwin. The program includes Bernstein’s Overture to Candide and Serenade after Plato’s Symposium, as well as Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess: A Symphonic Picture. Shao-Chia Lü conducts.
On November 9 and 10, Cho-Liang Lin performs in two concerts inspired by the literature of Shakespeare and Goethe. Lin is joined by David Finckel (cello), Matthew Lipman (viola), Jon Kimura Parker (piano) and Hyeyeon Park (piano). The program includes works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Brahms.
The concerts are presented by Music @ Menlo (November 9) and Apex Music (November 10).
On October 12, Cho-Liang Lin performs as a soloist and guest conductor with the Apollo Orchestra at the Church of the Little Flower in Bethesda, Maryland. The evening includes works by Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Brahms.
Later, on October 15, Lin joins pianist Orion Weiss for a special evening to benefit the Kaufman Music Center’s Special Music School. A unique public/private partnership between Kaufman Music Center and the New York City Department of Education, the Special Music School (M. 859) is New York City’s only K-12 public school for musically gifted children. The evening is hosted by Rosalind Devon and Cathy White O’Rourke and will welcome Kaufman Music Center’s new Executive Director, Kate Sheeran.
Cho-Liang Lin launches into a busy fall on October 12 in a concert with the Apollo Orchestra in Bethesda, MD. The evening features Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnole, Mozart’s Concert No. 3 in G major and Brahm’s Symphony No. 4 in E minor.
In November, Lin joins Matthew Lipman, Jon Kimura Parker, Hyeyeon Park, and David Finckel for a program exploring the musical interpretations of Shakespeare and Goethe. Including works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Brahms, the program will be presented on November 9 (Menlo Park, CA) and November 10 (Reno, NV).

From August 31 to September 16, Cho-Liang Lin travels to Indianapolis to serve on the jury of the 10th Quadrennial International Violin Competition of Indianapolis (IVCI).
For nearly forty years, IVCI has recognized and promoted the world’s finest young classical violinists, with participants continuing on to highly successful careers as concert violinists, recording artists, concertmasters, and chamber musicians. Hailed as “the ultimate violin contest” by the Chicago Tribune, the quadrennial competition brings forty of the world’s brightest young talents to Indianapolis to perform, bestowing numerous prizes valued at over $250,000. Lin serves on the jury alongside several other distinguished performers, including Jaime Laredo, Pamela Frank, and Dmitry Sitkovetsky.

This summer, La Jolla Music Society celebrates Cho-Liang Lin’s remarkable eighteen-year tenure as Music Director of SummerFest.
The festival kicks off on August 3rd with the celebratory Carnival!, an evening featuring works by Bartók, Villa-Lobos, and the grand finale, Saint-Saëns’ humorous musical suite, Carnival of the Animals. Lin performs alongside many talented friends and colleagues, including cellist Lynn Harrell and soprano Lyubov Petrova.
Other highlights from this year’s festival include: Late Night with Leonard Bernstein (August 8), My Favorite Playlist (August 18), Midnight in Paris (August 21), and the SummerFest Finale with David Zinman (August 24). Esteemed guests include Yefim Bronfman, Adele Anthony, Gil Shaham, and Emanuel Ax.

Speaking with The San Diego Union-Tribune about his final season, Lin notes, “One can always dream big,” he said. “And I dreamed big for SummerFest, because it’s such a beautiful festival. I want it to continue to grow and I hope it will take on new dimensions when the new concert hall opens.
