This summer, La Jolla Music Society celebrates Cho-Liang Lin’s remarkable eighteen-year tenure as Music Director of SummerFest.

The festival kicks off on August 3rd with the celebratory Carnival!, an evening featuring works by Bartók, Villa-Lobos, and the grand finale, Saint-Saëns’ humorous musical suite, Carnival of the Animals. Lin performs alongside many talented friends and colleagues, including cellist Lynn Harrell and soprano Lyubov Petrova.

Other highlights from this year’s festival include: Late Night with Leonard Bernstein (August 8), My Favorite Playlist (August 18), Midnight in Paris (August 21), and the SummerFest Finale with David Zinman (August 24). Esteemed guests include Yefim Bronfman, Adele Anthony, Gil Shaham, and Emanuel Ax.

Speaking with The San Diego Union-Tribune about his final season, Lin notes, “One can always dream big,” he said. “And I dreamed big for SummerFest, because it’s such a beautiful festival. I want it to continue to grow and I hope it will take on new dimensions when the new concert hall opens.
