On May 8, Cho-Liang Lin and pianist Jon Kimura Parker present a new recording of the Violin Sonatas of American composers John Harbison, Paul Schoenfeld, and Steven Stucky. Released by Naxos, the album also includes the world premiere recording of Leonard Bernstein's Canon for Aaron, which was composed for Aaron Copland's 70th birthday.
All three sonatas on this recording were commissioned by Lin, who has considered it a great privilege to be able to work with three of the great American composers. Lin shares:
"These three sonatas were written for me. Jon Kimura Parker and I worked with the composers for the world premieres. I can say all three composers are personal friends, and I have always admired their works greatly. All three sonatas carry with them a deep sense of affection from Jon and I."
The recording is dedicated to Steven Stucky, who passed away in 2016.
