Chamber and orchestral concerts to wrap up SummerFest 2012
August 20, 2012
Festival Music Director Cho-Liang Lin wraps up his 2012 La Jolla Music Society SummerFest performances with an all-Brahms chamber program on August 22 and the festival’s closing concert, featuring the SummerFest Chamber Orchestra, on August 24.
The Taiwan-born violinist joins his longtime musical colleagues, pianist Jon Kimura Parker and cellist Gary Hoffman, on Wednesday evening (August 22) to perform all three of Brahms’s complete piano trios. The Newbury Trio will play Beethoven’s Piano Trio in E-Flat Major as a musical prelude at 6:30pm.
On August 24, the acclaimed conductor Kent Nagano leads the SummerFest Chamber Orchestra in the festival’s finale concert. The program opens with Rossini’s Overture to The Barber of Seville, followed by Beethoven’s glorious Second Piano Concerto with Mari Kodama at the keyboard. Lin joins fellow violinists Philippe Quint, Michelle Kim, and Andrew Wan for Maurer’s Sinfonia Concertante in A Minor for Four Violins and Strings before the evening comes to close with Mendelssohn’s “Italian” Symphony.
