“Beethoven: The Other Masterpieces” highlights lesser known works at SummerFest 2012

On Friday, August 17, festival Music Director Cho-Liang Lin and the esteemed musicians of SummerFest 2012 unearth lesser-known chamber works by Ludwig van Beethoven in a concert at the San Diego Contemporary Museum of Art’s Sherwood Auditorium. “Beethoven: The Other Masterpieces” will showcase works from a variety of stages in the pioneering composer’s career: the Sextet in E-flat Major for Two Horns and String Quartet, Opus 81b; the String Quintet in C Major, Opus 29, featuring Lin in the ensemble; the Piano Trio in G Major, Opus 121a (“Kakadu” Variations); and the Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major, Opus 16. The Amphion String Quartet offers a musical prelude at 6:30pm before the concert, performing Claude Debussy’s String Quartet in G Minor.
