On Friday November 16, violinist Cho-Liang Lin, Chicago Symphony Orchestra clarinetist John Bruce Yeh, Metropolitan Opera orchestra principal harpist Deborah Hoffman and acclaimed cellist Joshua Roman come together at the University of Chicago’s Mandel Hall for a chamber concert that features the Midwest premiere of John Williams’s Quartet La Jolla. The celebrated American composer, who celebrates his 80th birthday this year, wrote the piece as a gift to Lin, who gave its world premiere at the La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest in 2011. Watch Lin introduce the piece here.
Lin’s collaborative program in Chicago also includes works by Ingolf Dahl, Jacques Ibert, Paul Reade, Handel, and Saint-Saëns. The composer Augusta Read Thomas will present a pre-concert lecture at 6:30pm.
